BANFF NATIONAL PARK, Canada

Situation:

Banff National Park is Canada's first national park. Spanning 6,641 square kilometres (2,564 square miles) of valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and rivers. It is home to some of North America's rarest animals, including healthy populations of black bears, grizzly bears, moose, caribou and wolves.

Goals:

This place is one of the last strong holds for Black Bears. They have been mercilessly poached in other parts of the world for their gall bladders which are of medicinal value. As their Asiatic counterparts have been pushed to the brink of extinction, poachers are now turning to Canada as a source of supply. Support is needed to implement their strategy for poaching prevention and protect these bears from the fate of their Asiatic counterparts.
