Do you really give books away for free?
Yes we
do! "Books for Free" rescues unwanted books otherwise destined for
landfill or pulping. Healthy Planet redistributes these books - for
free - throughout communities via our 32 volunteer run Books for
Free centres on high streets nationwide.
"Books for Free" has grown at a fantastic rate since it started
in 2010. We've rescued more than 2.5 million books from going to
waste.
Did you know:
- Books are very difficult to recycle due to the glue &
ink
- One tree produces up to 30 books - so let's share books more
and reduce, reuse and recycle more.
Each time you visit our centres you can take up to 3
books, don't forget to get them stamped. By visiting the
centres and taking a book, you are reducing the amount of waste
that goes to landfill each year and helping to rescue the stories
and knowledge within the book as well as the paper itself. We
welcome book donations, in particular children's books so next time
you have a declutter you know where to come.

such as children's paperbacks etc (because there is no profit in
them). My daughter hated reading at school, but since visiting
Books for Free only 3 weeks ago, she has already finished reading

Volunteers needed
If you would like to help out at one of our centres, please get
in touch. We're urgently seeking help in Stratford, Gravesend,
Egham and many more locations.
Do you have books to give?
We love books! We urgently need more book donations in order to
continue giving out books for free and would be most grateful for
any help. We accept book donations at any of our
centres, we are working on making each centre self
sustaining with books coming in and going out. We would like to
encourage everyone to reuse as much as possible and want to rescue
as many books as possible from landfill & pulping.
If you have large quantities and would like us to pick up the
books, perhaps you are a book
collector/distributor/publisher/business with excess books please
